Women’s Rights Intensifies

Omer Rains is an ecologist, philanthropist, and former state senator of California. In addition to his nonprofit work, Omer Rains has been recognized for his contribution to the progress of women’s rights.

Women’s rights has become a more polarizing topic in the last decade, with a growing debate over reproductive rights and gender identity. The historic Roe v. Wade case of 1973 came under scrutiny in July 2021, with both a spending bill being passed without the restrictions that access to abortion usually brings, and a number of U.S. governors asked to overturn Roe v. Wade the very next day. In the world of sports, names like Caster Semenya and Laurel Hubbard have been spoken of with motions to ban them from competing entirely due to above average testosterone levels, with the former athlete being barred from competing at the Tokyo Olympics.

The question of who has access to reproductive healthcare and who gets to call themselves female is being debated, although similar discussions about who gets to be called a male are notably absent from courts and competitions.
